There are quite a few members who haven't picked up their 2's money from competitions over the past couple of seasons. Please see the noticeboard if your name is there, if so collect from the Proshop.
Final Call on Subscriptions
2013
SUBSCRIPTIONS FINAL CALL
The last day in January is fast approaching, and we’d expect by
now that most would be paid up, but because of club closures due to the recent snow,
we’re extending the subscriptions deadline.
The office will be open from 8am until noon this weekend,
Saturday 2nd. and Sunday 3rd. February to allow those of
you who have yet to pay your membership subscriptions for 2013 to do so.
Please be
advised that the professional shop may deny playing and membership rights to
those who are not paid up.
Many thanks for your co-operation
New Greens Committee
To all the
members at Mitcham Golf Club
I am pleased
to announce that I have recently been appointed as greens committee member for
2013.
Last year’s
weather conditions severely affected the clubs finances, resulting in necessary
restraints on major works planned for this year. However, works that improve
the general appearance and playing quality of the course at reasonable cost
will be considered.
To this end
I would like to invite you to put forward suggestions that may enhance our golf
course.
Recently
Brian & Evie Simpson, Dave Willis and I visited Wimbledon Park GC and tried
the sand in their renovated bunkers with a view to improving the quality of
sand in ours. After testing, it was agreed that this type of sand would work very
well for us. Over the coming weeks we will be making the necessary modifications
to those of our bunkers which need it most – weather permitting!
I have
received copies of Mr Ron Robbins comments from previous AGM’s and will be discussing them with him
personally – we haven’t forgotten you Ron.
Have a great
golfing year.

Historical News
Youngstown Vindicator April 18th 1926
“London's first golf club for women exclusively has proved such a success that a movement has been started to organise others of its kind.
The club, tucked away at Mitcham Junction, where the country has shaken off the suburbs, was launched in 1893 and (is now) conducted by Mrs William Deane, formerly an international player, and Miss Betty Hayes. They play special attention to the needs of the working woman who finds it difficult to get a game of golf at the ordinary course because of the influx of men players.
Now and then, by special arrangement, men are allowed to play at Mitcham, but no mere man may become a full member of the club.
As a side line the women members grow all there own flowers and vegetables and in the summer gay supper parties are held in the open air. Alcoholic drinks are barred in the club.”
Mitcham Golf Club was established in 1924 and took over the men's course and club house from Prince's Golf Club but the Prince's Ladies Golf Club continued for another 6 years until its licence expired at the end of 1930. So for a few years there were two clubs sharing the Common – Mitcham Golf Club playing on the old Prince's Course and Princes's Ladies Golf Club playing on their old Ladies course (7 holes between the two railway lines and 11 on land used by our present 10th to 17thholes).
Mrs Deane, her husband, and Miss Hayes (actual names were Robert Heward Deane, Aletta Felicia Deane and Annie Harriet Hayes)also took over the licence to run Seaford Head Golf Club in 1929 when it became clear that no extension of the license on Mitcham Common would be possible.
