Captains Report

What a few months we’ve had so far.  Our golf continues to be hampered by rain or snow, but with our first comp approaching, the course still looks superb and is holding up well.  Inevitably Drop Zones and GUR have been put in place due to the weather and because of improvements to the course, so please be patient as brighter and drier times are ahead.  A question  asked about plugged balls in the rough prompted a local rule to be brought in giving a finger roll relief, but only a finger roll, people!
The first medal competition of the year in the ladies section has been won by a new member.  Well done Mandy Dribble.

All knock outs are underway between you good people, but already there has been controversy.  May I remind you all that there is plenty of time to play these matches, but if left to the last minute and Mother Nature decides to rain heavily on you, NO extension will be granted.  The top name or pairing will go through automatically.  Please do not ask the match and handicap committee or myself to extend these as it causes problems when others have braved the weather, and results may have been different in better conditions.  Well done Brian Simpson who beat Derek Thomas in adverse conditions - apparently it can be an advantage as I didn’t see that result coming!
Now that a few feathers have been ruffled you’ll be pleased to hear that the Captain and Pro ‘get your own back’ sheet is going up, so put your names down.  All handicaps welcomed with a fee of just £7.00.

The Surrey 5’s and Kelso Hamilton teams have been picked, but my ‘A’ team lost the qualifier against Coombe Wood.  Much praise should go to Steve Hall, Trevor Stovell, Craig Budde, Paul Clothier and Tom Manneh who were picked for my team and did us proud even in defeat, so shake their hands.  Coincidentally Steve Carters ‘B’ team has also drawn Coombe Woods.  Even though he may have picked his team, I am available for selection Steve!

The Kelso Hamilton pairings of Alan Thorpe and Keith Lewis have drawn Surbiton away, and Gary Cooper and Rob Pollard are away to Roehampton.  Good luck to all teams.
We have only 3 junior members this year which is isn’t good for the future of our club.  With help from Paul Burton and Dennise Coker we are going to do our best to attract new youths by putting a campaign package together, followed by visits to local schools.  Any ideas please inform one of the committee members.

Social nights are coming thick and fast, and a big thank you to Evie Simpson.   A Spanish themed night is next up on April 19TH so I call upon support from as many members to make this a success like the quiz nights are.  Speaking of which, with two victories under our belts, a new undefeated team put together by yours truly has upset the Railway Taverners.  Let’s make it three in a row!
Your Captains have finalised their chosen charities with me continuing to support Help 4 Hero’s and Adelaide supporting Riding for the disabled.  Please donate as much or as little as you can.  Anything can make a difference.

On a sad note we lost Jack Dawkins who was a long serving member and will be missed. I know a few members have lost close relatives recently, so spare a thought and remember some good times.
